31 Day Challenge - Day 31 Recreate someone elses mani Part I

Day 31 Part I because I am so in awe of so many manis that I think the next week of posts will be recreating some of the awesome creations I have seen!

This one was SpecialGirl Nails' day 13 cheer yourself up mani.

My interpretation of this was done using a base coat of Nomadic Nude from Color Club Back to Boho collection.  Once dry I sponged over using Earthy Angel from the same Color Club collection, more Nomadic in Nude and  Barry M Satsuma.  This was topped with Seche then rimmel matte topcoat.  I then used the same stamping plates as SpecialGirlNails and stamped with a-england Camelot.  I didn't use any topcoat at this point as I like the shiny stamp and matte base.

I doubled stamped my little finger. I had never considered using two different plates for same design, it works so well! Thanks Cazzy!!!

Bit messy as my new clean up brush arrived and I've ordered the wrong one. FML.

Small Haul / Swatches

I left work early yesterday and took some leave (sinusitis playing up, booooooo!) I needed to go to Boots to get some medication which is always fatal given all those well illuminated shiny stands in there.  And to get to Boots I had to pass several pound shops - well I didn't have to, but there was a viable route passing three so given the blog posts about Sally Hansens in there.....

I was going to post these yesterday along with my China Glaze Avant Garden nail mail but the post would have ended up very picture heavy.

I got my first Models Own in Freak Out and Snowflakes.

No Sally Hansens in the pound shops, but there were these two Revlons, No Shrinking Violets and Lilac Pastelle.

First up is Lilac Pastelle, more soft pink than lilac, but this is a shade I just did not have in stash (until now!) During the recent a-england sale I had considered buying Iseult to have a pink shade but couldn't justify £6 on something I would probably wear infrequently.  £1 I can justify!   This is two coats, my thumb had three as I applied it badly and made it streak.  No top coat.

At present I have a lot of purples but I haven't got a good "Cadbury" purple.  For me the perfect Cadbury Purple needs to be blue toned with a silver shimmer.  I used to have one abut ten years ago, but more recently I have been missing one.  This went on in ONE COAT!  Here it is without any topcoat.

Here are my two Models Own polishes layered over Lilac Pastelle.

As these are my first MO polishes I don't know if my experience of the glitter is normal or if I have two bad bottles.  Both bottles have thick suspension polish, like Seche when it is ready for Restore, you pull the brush out of the bottle and have the long stringy almost nylon-like wisp of polish.  I found them horrible because of this.  I may have to add a few drops of Restore but it worries me that the colour in the glitter may be affected?

Here is a combination of China Glaze Fancy Pants with accent thumb and ring fingers of Freak Out.  This is over the swatches from yesterday and I was gutted when I spotted staining from Budding Romance at the base of my index finger.

This is the blurple mani I wore today, I am disappointed that I already have chips on my middle and little fingers and some horrible tip wear or shrinkage from the Seche.  Hopefully Fancy Pants will wear better next time as it's a bloody fab colour!

31 Day Challenge - Day 30 your favourite technique

Anyone who has read my blog for a while may have noticed two techniques I am particularly fond of, gradients and dotticures, of the two dotticures are my favoured one due to being less messy and less clean up needed!

Today we have a dotticure using a-england Guinevere and Ascalon.  I seem to have used these two a lot recently, but I love the contrast of the holo shimmer and the cream. These two seem to go together perfectly.

I reversed the colours for my left hand.

China Glaze Avant Garden Nail Mail

I got some nail mail today... stalking one of my favourite e-tailers revealed that China Glaze's new collection were available for purchase (I thought these weren't out til March?) so I grabbed two which had really been appealing to me from the press releases: Budding Romance and Fancy Pants.

First up is Budding Romance, described as moss green.  I don't think this is very mossy, but I do think it's a very different green to anything I own.  It is one of those "poop" greens, but I really do like it!  It reminded me somewhat of a darker, dirtier version of Def Defying from the Worlds Away.  It also is the exact colour of a coat my old line manager used to wear!  This is two coats over my matte base, no top coat.  Application was a little streaky on first coat, but opaque after two.

Next is Fancy Pants, this one made me ooooh when I unwrapped it!  It is a blurple but also has a pink iridescent shade running through it - in a similar way to how Immortal by CG also had a slight iridescence.  I've not been able to capture this, but I'm sure some of the super bloggers will get these soon and their cameras will be better than mine at macro for it!  This is two coats over my matte base, no top coat.  It was more or less perfect in one coat.  I didn't notice the green from Budding Romance on my skin until I edited the pics.

This was my just done picture- where I was at the breakfast bar I thought I'd got the pink hues!

I love both of these.  I skipped the pinks as pink isn't my thing, but then I may just go back and order some more from this collection once I see the swatches!

31 Day Challenge - Day 29 Inspired by a Blogger

For day 29 I am showing a previously unposted mani which I entered into a competition on chitchatnails.  Marta was holding a skittlette competition and as she always does such awesome nails I took my time to try and find the right colours.  Marta seems to post a lot of cream finishes, so I used just two creams for this, China Glaze Foie Gras and Hanging in the Balance.  The contrast between these colours is great.

To make my entry have my "stamp" on it, I used my beloved dotting tools.

This was the picture I sent in.

I had to go and stand in the corner of our garden to get this - I was having problems with the Seche making it too shiny and the light was bouncing off my nails!

Here's a couple more photos.

This is very similar to one of my earlier 31 Day Challenge posts, where I used Foie Gras and lilacs.  I actually prefer this combi now I compare the two!

31 Day Challenge - Day 28 Inspired by your favourite colour

My favourite colour is teal so I've used five different shades and textures of teal to create these skittles.

My base for all of them was a-england Galahad.  On my thumb I dotted with Barry M Gelly in Watermelon and OPI Suzi Says Feng Shui, index is a freehanded corner done in Orly Halley's Coment, middle finger is interlocking dots of Galahad / Suzi Says Feng Shui, ring is a gradient of Galahad and Sally Hansen Spectrum (very subtle change in texture rather than colour) and little finger had single row of dots using Watermelon.

Bonus extreme macro of thumb!!

31 Day Challenge - Day 26 Inspired by your country.

Day 26 is the hardest of all of the "inspired by" days for me.  I have gone a bit cliche here, after I did these I thought of lots of fab British inspirations like James Bond, the Beatles etc, but what did I go for?  A Union Jack sorry a Union "Flag," a crown and the Olympic rings after the 2012 Olympics.  I also had to foresty green nails which were inspired by my part of the UK, where I live is Robin Hood territory so it is Sherwood Forest inspired green!

My clean up brush has died a death in the acetone and made more mess than it solved!

I used for green Revlon Emerald City; for Union Jack I used a base of Nails Inc Southwark, then striper brush for white OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls, the red was OPI You Rock-a-pulco Red; the crown nail is a base of a-england Camelot, stamped with OPI Golden Rules and dotted with Enchanted Polish Across the Universe and OPI Unfor-Greta-bly Blue; the ringed nail was OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls, dotted with the same blue, red, green and back as used previously, the yellow is a freebie which came with Cosmo a few months ago.
