SpaRitual Protein Boost Update: After Four Weeks

Anyone following my blog regularly will have seen my ongoing posts with my updates as to how my nails have progressed since I cut and filed them back four weeks ago and replaced my regular Nail Envy base with the SpaRitual Protein Boost.

Initially I also replaced my Avoplex with SpaRitual Cuti-Cocktail Pen and Pusher.  The Cuti-Cocktail pen ran out fairly quickly (I get through this type of pen dispenser very quickly no matter what the brand because of the convenience of application, I just keep using it!) I loved this oil so much that at the weekend I placed an order for two bottles of the oil which comes with a lovely pointy dropper to apply it.  SpaRitual UK have free delivery and the order completed Sunday afternoon was delivered the following Tuesday (and for a genuine customer experience I placed the order using a personal email address, nothing linked up with my blog so that there could be no special treatment- not that I expect it!!!!)  Comparatively speaking both products retail at similar prices to equivalent OPI products.

The Protein Boost and initial Cuti-Cocktail pen and pusher were provided for me by SpaRitual for purposes of reviewing.

So far my progress has been very good, the first few posts can be found here.

After three weeks

Now it is time to unveil after four weeks!  Right at the beginning of this experiment I shared a picture of my nails when the were at their longest at the end of May, well I feel they have passed that length now.  Not only have they passed that length which I wasn't expecting to do until the end of August or early September, they have grown in a lovely shape.  On the May photo my nails flared out at the tips, now they have a lovely "C" curl to them and they are a great straight shape.

This simple mani was a base of Protein Boost, two coats of SpaRitual Delight, topped in the corners with a-england Merlin and some striping tape.  Really simple.  This beautiful pale green really inspires me to pair it with silver.
During the second week I experienced a couple of breaks, losing the corners off each thumb.  I am still waiting on my thumbs catching up, but I am sure this will happen soon.

My nails are now at a length which I wouldn't normally have them, they are much longer.  I am going to continue leaving them to grow so I can review the strengthener fully, I love the shape they have right now and think I'll see how I go.  I like my shorties for typing, my WPM speed must have dropped as I am not used to using the pads of my fingers!

One of my lovely readers Dimana has been following my progress and invested in the same treatment for her nails, I do hope you are seeing similar pleasing results Dimana: I can't find if you have a blog, but if you do please leave or email me a link :)

Be sure to check my blog tomorrow for the upcoming SpaRitual giveaway, the prize includes Delight, the lovely green featured in this post :)

The Protein Boost and Cuti-Cocktail Pen and Pusher were sent for review by SpaRitual, I am now a total convert to the brand and cannot imagine using any other strengthener.

SpaRitual Last Tango

Today is part two of a collaberative series of posts with Claire of Kerruticles, Lucie of Lucy's Stash and Claire of Nuthin But a Nail Thing.

Today I have a bright, hot trend coral creme polish "Last Tango" provided to me by SpaRitual for Review.  The following pictures are three coats with no topcoat.

This polish is bang on trend for the summer.  The polish applies well, the SpaRitual brush with it's special rubberized grip is fab and really offers great control although I did manage to flood my cuticles.  Clean up was easy using an angled brush and pure acetone, although be sure to wipe the brush as this type of colour will stain your skin (remember at removal stage to put oil or lotion of sorts on your skin to avoid any staining.) SpaRitual are Vegan society approved using mica for shimmer polishes rather than guanine - fish scales!!!!  The polishes are also 5-free:  no DBP, Toluene, Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin or Camphor, so no horrible chemicals in here.

I applied this polish in three coats, I needed three to hide my nail line and it was still visible in some places.  My thumb (the shorty which I broke a couple of weeks ago) suited this polish perfectly (no visible nail line) and next time I have nubbins I am definitely going to be wearing this colour, I think it will really suit anyone with shorter, well manicured nails.   The polish was applied over a base of two coats of SpaRitual protein boost, despite a total of five layers on my nails - no top coat used - it was dry in about 20 mins, I know this because I reached into the oven and only when taking off the oven gloves did I remember my nails.  There was no damage at all caused by the oven gloves - result!!!

The odd looking marks on this picture are reflections in my nail, not bumps.

As with yesterday's Delight, I wasn't one to leave this alone: my addition to this polish was a diagonal animal print using black and white polish.  The pictures below were taken after 24hrs wear on Sunday afternoon, for me this is an impressive lasting mani, no peeling or chipping and very little tip wear, I think the light reflection on the tips makes them look more worn than they were.

I do love the shape of the SpaRitual bottle, designed by Ferrari (however the bottle performs much better in my opinion than the race cars are currently doing in this season's F1.)  The bottles are environmentally friendly made using recycled glass and they can be recycled with care.

My camera had a really hard time capturing this amazing colour, my regular camera (the little one on the bendy tripod) struggled and turned this polish orange. The "big camera" on the metal tripod made it look too red.  Photoshopping the pictures made my skin look like I had been dead for a week (not a good look!)

I tried two cameras, with lights, without lights, inside, outside and learnt a lot about the cameras in the making of this post, yet the best pictures were the ones with the camera set on auto!  The picture below shows the polish really well.

SpaRitual apply numerology to their polishes based on product code for Last Tango this is what it means...

Last Tango – 80010 1 + 0 = 1
1 – Independence & Ambition: The Hero
Positive Traits: Initiator of action, a pioneering spirit, inventive ideas, strong leadership skills, independent, drives to attain, individualistic style, executive abilities, extraordinary will and determination, courageous.

This meaning is perfect for me: I got bitten by ants whilst trying to capture the colour outside, that's dedication to the polish, drive to attain, showing willpower and determination.  I even scrapped the first 80 or so pictures after seeing the uploaded and reswatched this the next day!

Be sure to check back tomorrow when we will be using both polishes for nail art and launching a giveaway....

SpaRitual polishes are available online here (if you are registered as a normal customer - not for trade - postage is free of charge.) SpaRitual have a range of 72 permanent colours with between 4-6 seasonal collections released each year.  They also have an awesome strengthener Protein Boost which I started to use 4 weeks ago after cutting my nails back to absolute nubbins, over that time they have really grown well!

Products featured were sent for review but this hasn't had any impact on my honest opinion.

SpaRitual Delight

Today I have a polish sent for review: SpaRitual Delight.

This lovely green creme polish is the first of two polishes which I am reviewing along with Claire of Kerruticles, Lucie of Lucy's Stash and Claire of Nuthin But a Nail Thing.  We have a further polish to review tomorrow then some nail art Thursday to coincide with a special giveaway :D

Taken from SpaRitual UK Facebook page (source)

This polish was great to apply, perfect in two coats (almost perfect in one coat) a great consistency and no flooded cuticles.  I applied this over a base of SpaRitual Protein Boost, the pictures below are without top coat.

I have previously sung the praises of SpaRitual in my ongoing review of the strengthener and previous polish review, the bottle is so perfectly designed for sitting snugly in the hand and the brush has the amazing grip and control, it is also perfect for being able to easily open the bottle.  The bottles are designed by Ferrari, made from recycled glass and are also recyclable with care.

SpaRitual are Vegan society approved using mica for shimmer polishes rather than guanine - fish scales!!!!  The polishes are also 5-free:  no DBP, Toluene, Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin or Camphor.

Now as much as I love this polish alone, I had to make an addition to this, I think this Tiffany-esque pale green pairs fantastically with silver.  I added a simple silver striping tape line as a French tip, then added some top coat.  I think this polish will be coming up again in many forms and paired with silver over the next few weeks!

SpaRitual apply numerology to their polishes based on product code for Delight this is what it means...

Delight – 80377   3 + 7 + 7 = 17   7 + 1 = 8
8 – Confidence & Power: The Achiever
Positive Traits: Executive character and abilities, political skills, expert handling of power and authority, working for a cause, achieving recognition, exercising sound judgement, decisive and commanding.

Kiko 295 alone / with dots

Looking back at my Kiko polishes after wearing 401 has made me want to wear and reswatch them. Today is 295 Cerulean Blue.

This bright blue was almost perfect in one coat the alone pictures are two coats no top coat over a base of SpaRitual Protein Boost (two coats of this to avoid smurf nails hopefully!)

I couldn't resist some polka dots over this, I used my trusty bottle of OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls and topped with W7 Diamond Top Coat.  For some reason my with bottle picture has disappeared :(

I don't know why I haven't worn this one for ages, maybe it is because I have noticed my Seche adds a yellow tinge to this type of blue? As I did these yesterday I had a little more time to spare so used a slower drying top coat instead (and the dents I have this morning are fairly subtle!)

stripes

The Kiko I posted about yesterday, 390, didn't stay a  blank canvas for long.  Given my recent obsession with my striping brush I couldn't resist adding some stripes using two of my Barry M Gelly polishes in Pomegranate and Guava.  Pomegranate was actually a little darker in real life.

I got a little streaking on my middle finger :(

These reminded me of sweets.

kiko 390

This polish had sat in my hemler and only been used one vintage floral manis, never really worn, so I decided to try it out...

Two coats, no top coat over SpaRitual Protein Boost.

This polish was my bargain find when I was in France, it cost me .50c so about 39p!  I love the silver shimmer it has throughout.

kiko 401

I was recently looking for a quick mani and reached for this colour, Kiko 401 holographic.  I wasn't intending to blog about it, but after a day of wearing it I actually removed my polish, redid it, took pictures and wore it another day.

I have always wanted DV8 from the China Glaze holos and think this may be a dupe, unfortunately I don't have them to compare.

These pictures were two coats over my base of SpaRitual Protein Boost, I used Poshe topcoat.  I had no issues with balding or dragging the second time I wore this, on the first day one nail needed three coats.

The holo was shy in the light box, but in the normal lighting of the kitchen it came to life.

Here is a quick comparison of 401 vs Layla Mermaid Spell and Jade Energy, two polishes I imagined were the same but in reality aren't.

And here is one final picture from the last time I wore this polish in Feb, how my nails have come on!  WOW!!!
original swatch post link

I was playing with my striping brush and this happened...

This was OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls with stripes done using Kiko 390 and butterLONDON God Save the Queen, the flowers were drawn with Barry M pink nail art pen, then topped the lot off with OPI Pirouette my Whistle.

SpaRitual Chop off my nails challenge update: 3 weeks on

**Press Sample**

It has been three weeks since I cut my nails right back ready for trying out the SpaRitual Protein Boost Strengthener, so it's time for an update on how my nails are progressing.

In case this is the first time you have read about this a brief overview is.... three weeks ago I trimmed my nails right back to absolute nubs and replaced my usual Nail Envy with SpaRitual's Protein Boost.  I have been using Cuti-Cocktail Pen and Pusher alongside this strengthener however over the weekend this the pen has now run dry.  I've used it over the last two and half weeks and loved the smell and results and will definitely be purchasing a replacement (roll on pay day!) although I think I will go for the oil in a bottle with a dropper as well as a pen.  The pen lasted about average for any of these oil pens: no matter what the brand I do use them quite quickly.

If you want to catch up on the progress so far, click the images below for the posts associated.

After two weeks

For my "after three weeks" post I have decided not to publish more unpolished photos and gone for some photos when I had polish on instead.  You guys have seen enough of my stained nails recently!!!

I love stripes!  These were a Ciate Pink polish with Barry M Guava and Wet N Wild Black Creme freehanded stripes.

This final picture shows the pink base I used for striping over.

My nails have definitely grown loads! I think they are much straighter and they seem longer as a result.  I love this strengthener and will definitely be sticking with this for the foreseeable future.  A colleague of mine who checks my nails every day thinks they are the longest she has seen them. I think they aren't the longest they have been (yet) but they are the best shape.  The straightness in them is amazing, they have a perfect "C" shape when viewed from the tip and they are lovely and straight, no odd kinks or curling inwards which does sometimes happen at this length.  I'd say that by the end of July they will have reached the lengths I was anticipating it taking until the end of August to get to, which is amazing: a month early!

SpaRitual products are vegan society approved, the cuti-cocktail cuticle oil smells divine and works so well for me, the strengthener is free from toulene, DBP and formaldehyde.  The bottle shape and design of the brush are awesome, I understand that this is because Ferrari designed it, who knew Ferrari did anything other than cars - I would say fast cars but anyone following F1 will realise they aren't that quick at the moment!  The packaging which is eco friendly makes this look very luxurious and I would recommend this as a gift for someone looking to improve their nails based on my own experiences.

The Protein Boost and Cuti-Cocktail were sent to me for reviewing purposes by SpaRitual.  The opinions I have expressed are in no way affected by this.  The products can be purchased from SpaRitual.co.uk directly.  I only realised yesterday that the postage is free of charge for customers purchasing for themselves, the £7.50 mentioned on the delivery section of the website only applies to trade customers - bonus as I am too tight to pay postage, it leaves me more money to spend on polish :)
