Pink and White polka dot skittlette

This mani is one I prepped for the Crumpets Nail Tarts 31 DC starting tomorrow, which I had hoped to be partaking in, however life has got in the way and I just will not have time to undertake a challenge right now.  Oddly enough my last post was pink and white with dots and studs and this one is too!

From the ashes - pink and white skittlette.

Today I have a pink and white skittlette.  Pink and white is one of my favourite pairings at the moment, second only to black and white!

Christmas Jumpers

Firstly, a quick MERRY CHRISTMAS!  Thanks to each and everyone of you for reading and following. Today's post features my snowflake nails which reminded me of Christmas jumpers so I am posting them today.

Rubbish phone photos as I didn't have time to set up the camera.

Smitten - Peppermint Patty swatches

Today I have swatches of a polish I was given as a birthday gift, Smitten Peppermint Patty a minty green polish packed full of holo glitters.  The first photo is taken in normal light of light box, the rest are taken with a daylight lamp pointed straight at the nails.

Above the Curve Harry Potter collection swatches and review.

Today I have some swatches of the Above the Curve Harry Potter Inspired collection, the UK retailer for Above the Curve, Sally Magpies provided these for review.

The collection is made up of nine polishes, three glitters, six holos.  The lighting in these photos is all over the place as the December weather is unforgiving and there's not enough daylight to get any type of sparkle.  I moved the daylight lamps around as best I could. some are my normal lighting set up, some are indirect lighting and some are directly lit.  All swatches are two coats and without topcoat unless mentioned otherwise.

Hufflepuff
Hufflepuff (worn with top coat in picture above) reminded me of Easter pastel polishes, it's a fluffy yellow chick shade, filled with holo glitters. Yep, those black/green speckles are holographic glitters!   I did have a little fishing to do to get the larger hex glitters, the smaller ones were copious and plentiful.  There is a hint of VNL still at two coats when under the bright daylight lamps but it was less visible in real life.  If VNL was an issue you could layer over white to hide the VNL.  I am not a huge yellow fan but this shade is amazing.

Nail Arcade - unicorn nail decoration review.

Today I have a long overdue review of some lovely unicorn nail decorations from the Nail Arcade.  I decided to use the unicorn as an accent on just one nail as I thought all nails would be a bit too much.

Black and White Skittle

It may be coming up towards Christmas, but today I have some relatively simple black and white nails, I still can't bring myself to think of Christmas designs!

Bold Animal Print Skittlette

Today's post features a really simple mani which was so quick and easy to do!

Bright Skittlette inspired by Winter Hyacinth

This mani was inspired by the colours in my bottle of Femme Fatale Winter Hyacinth, the pink is a bit different but it was a nice bold colour combo and I loved wearing this!

INM Out the Door Top Coat review plus Purple and Gold Skittlette

In my last post I mentioned I was starting to fall out of love with my bottle of Rica, so for today's nails I decided to crack open my bottle of INM Out the Door.  I have had this since probably July, but as I bought three different top coats all at once, this has been in waiting.

Gold Accent Skittlette

This was a quick mani I cobbled together - oh no I just wrote that without thinking... No pun intended...

Photos were taken after 24hrs wear.

Nail Arcade star stud review

Today I have a long overdue review which I have been meaning to do since October - apologies to the lovely Rachel of The Nail Arcade regarding this.  Rachel has an Etsy store called The Nail Arcade, she sent me a few items to review and I will be getting the others up over the next few days.  Today I have neon studs in star design .  The neon studs are also available as dots, they are available in an assorted colour combo bag of 50 for just 95p! Bargain price.

SpaRitual Authentically review, swatches and how I wore it.

Have I really been AWOL for 10 days?  So it would seem!  Brief overview: sinuses (again!) and a general apathy towards my nails after filing them round: didn't I learn from the last time? No. No I didn't! So I squared them off shortly after my Halloween nails and generally chilled out and read four books on my kindle over the last two weeks, currently on book five.

Today I have a review of a matte polish from the SpaRitual 2014 Home collection. I was really excited to try this out as this is the first matte polish I have tried by SpaRitual.

Smitten Cauldron Bubble

I recently admitted to being Smitten by Smitten, today's post features Cauldron Bubble from the Halloween release.  I totally loved this deep inky polish with scattered holo.  Didn't realise this first picture was blurry when I deleted the others from the camera :/

Photos below are in indirect lightbox then with light shining straight onto the nails.  The direct light really brings the holo to life.

MoYou Nails 122, 123 and Persian Turquoise Stamping polish.

This review has taken a while to get written up, I've had these since October, but with all the illnesses in the family and visiting hospitals now is the first chance I have had to write this review.

I previously reviewed some MoYou Nails stamping plates and polishes in May, during that review I commented about how I would love to try out full nail images, today I have my chance!  For today's review I have stamping plates MoYou 122 and MoYou 123 and Persian Turquoise Stamping polish each of these retail at £4.99.  I was previously provided a stamper and scraper.  I have found the MoYou Nails Stamper to be my favourite since I tried it, not as soft as my squishy and not as hard as my Konad, meaning I manage to get the best of both options whenever I stamp.

I got carried away and tried the plate on the right above, before photographing it!  The plates were in small plastic envelopes for retail display, I removed them to get a better picture.

Holiday Nails

These were intended to be my holiday nails for our short break to Devon at the start of half term, I say intended as in the end I changed my plan when the black textured polish looked shiny after a day.

Blue Skittle

I previously posted some black and white nails which included dots and textures, based on something I saw by Chewitts Nails on IG.  Today is a blue and white version inspired again by that same design.

Pink Skittle Nails

I have phases where I totally love pink or never wear it.  This mani combined a few of my favourite pinks :)

Smitten To Me You are Perfect / Out of the Darkness comparison

In my last post I mentioned being Smitten by Smittens, here are two more I recently added to my stash.  Out of the Darkness was a charity release with a donation in memory of Robin Williams.  To Me, You are Perfect was one I managed to get from my polish dealer (LOL!!) a trusty source I cheekily approached asking if she had any to sell!

Side by side I thought I had ended up with two the same.

Pink and Holo dots

Today I have a quick dotticure I did a couple of weeks ago, one of the first times I did my nails after hubs had been in hospital.

The post which almost wasn't....

The post which almost wasn't... these photos make this mani look so boring.  I almost didn't publish them.  Excuse the wrinkled index finger, this was done when I had a streaming cold and I had a sneezing fit before the top coat was dry...

Today I have a simple swatch, this was one of the colours I enjoyed whilst I had nubbins after filing off the points!

Nail Arcade Clear Laser Crystal Studs Review.

Today's post features a nail design I actually did for the Crumpet Nail Tarts Pick and Mix Challenge a couple of weeks ago, the three colour gradient prompt, with everything that's been going on (the reason for the impromptu break I have just taken) it's taken until now to post.

Unexpected break

Just a very short, quick post to explain the unexpected blogging break currently.

Tuesday, 7 October 2014

New Nail Shape (if you hate it, don't worry, it's already gone!)

Today's post is more to explain why I have got nubbins in the next few posts, than to show off a polish or any nail art.

This first picture was part of the going going gone stages, on the Friday when I filed my nails as part of the change in shape.  Slightly more rounded.  It felt a lot rounded actually as I am used to square.

Swatches of Beauty UK Great Blue Beyond and how I wore it.

Today I have a review of Beauty UK Great Blue Beyond plus some how I wore it photos.

Great Blue Beyond is from the Beauty UK core "Nails" collection, the collection boasts 22 glossy colours which wear amazingly well.  This blue shade has a fab shimmer running through it.

For the swatches below I have two coats of Great Blue Beyond, shown without top coat.

A couple of weeks ago I saw a post on Instagram which I loved and had to recreate!

Crumpets Nail Tarts 52 week challenge Teal / Two Colour Gradient.

Today is my first post for a mammoth 52 week challenge by the Crumpet's Nail Tarts group.  The 52 week pick and mix challenge replaces the old TriPolish Tuesdays and Golden Oldie Thurdays with a series of prompts which are a colour and a theme / technique and you can do one of them or combine them both.  This week is Two Colour Gradient / Teal.  Being clever I decided to combine both, then realised I used Turquoise instead of Teal. Oh well, close enough!!

R&R Lacquers Don't Cross the Streams collection swatchest and review.

Today I have some swatches of a couple of polishes from a forthcoming Hallowe'en collection by R&R Lacquers, the collection is named Don't Cross the Streams and has a Ghostbusters theme.  I will openly admit at this point that despite being of an age where I am old enough to have been around when this film was new, I actually have never watched it fully.... I have seen bits of it though, I even tried watching it last week when I was at home, sick with all kinds of horrible germs.  I actually fell asleep on the sofa whilst it was on and missed most of it (again!)

I have been sent three polishes for review, pictured below L-R they are I Ain't Afraid of no Ghost, Stay Puft and green glow in the dark top coat.

Barry M Guava and Beauty UK Tealed with a Kiss comparison and wear test

I previously reviewed Beauty UK Tealed with a Kiss and mentioned that I thought it looked a lot like Barry M Guava.  When putting them away I compared them in the bottles and thought how alike they looked, so I decided to do a side by side, on the nail comparison and wear test seeing as the Beauty UK range boast excellent wear time.

Circular Dots

I posted a couple of days agowith a black / neon combination.  After two days of wearing that I needed a pallette cleanser!  This was what I went with.

British Nail Bloggers Colour Me Crazy - Contrasting.

Today's post is a combination of contrasting and complimentary colours, although the theme is contrasting, so we'll focus on the colours which do contrast!

The first picture has an odd look on my skin, I used the "Colour fix" option on Aviary as the bright colours had made me look like I had been tango'd!!  Whenever colours are tweaked, my skin always look oddly toned, perils of being so pale I guess.

Interlocking neons and dots.

Today's nails weren't planned, they were a third attempt on a bad nail day and I ended up having to wear this mani for two days as I worked late and didn't have time to change them.

British Nail Blogger Colour Me Crazy - Complimentary.

For complimentary, I have opted to use blue with complimenting gold accents as whilst it contrasts it also compliments amazingly well.  I thought I had posted this earlier in the week.

This was done when my eczema was mid flare up after the bleeding rubber gloves split when washing the pots and my skin came into contact with the detergent.

Splatter Mani

Today I have my first successful (ish) splatter mani!  Having no straws in the house I utilised a plastic pipette I had got in, cutting off the end so I could blow through it. Here's how it turned out!

Then and Now post - Vintage Roses

Today is a loose then and now post, I have done these loosely to tie in with an older mani (see last photo!)

I have to apologise for the odd colouring of these photos, I had played with the camera after the pink looked odd in the photos for my Rica Glossy Glam review and then didn't notice the pictures seemed differently coloured.  Camera should be sorted now, I have set it to take photos in RAW mode so I can adjust the photos afterwards. I used to use RAW when I first got the camera, a year ago but haven't used RAW for some time.  It is the way forwards though!!

Rica Glossy Glam review

Today's post is another update on my holy grail top coat hunt.  Today I have a review of Rica Glossy Glam and a wear test from the bank holiday weekend in August.  I have been wanting Glossy Glam for ages, but there were only a few stores stocking it which sold internationally and they were out of order each time I checked.  One night I randomly checked the Rica Etsy store and saw that international shipping was now available and Glossy Glam was in stock!  Firstly I will show my how I wore it photos.

   Press Sample   Purchased by Me

Today's nails are something I idea had been toying with for a while, pastel sponging with white stamping and a glitter sandwich.

China Glaze Pink Voltage swatches and how I wore it.

Following on from my previous post in August featuring China Glaze Flip Flop Fantasy, today I have a further post featuring the other polishes I won in a Facebook like and share giveaway from NailPolish.co.uk.

Firstly I have some swatches of Pink Voltage, a hot neon pink.  In the pictures below I have two coats on some nails, three on a couple of others. I had a quite visible nail line on my ring finger so I needed an extra coat there.  There was no need for white undies, although maybe I could have got away with less coats if I had?  No top coat in the pictures below, like FFF this also is a neon with a matte finish.

Duri Brush N Go Top Coat review.

I have recently been mentioning holy grail top coats and how I am looking for the "perfect" one for me.  Today I have finally got to putting together my review of Duri Brush n Go.

The nails in this post had one coat of Duri Brush N Go so I could see how it worked.

Dotty Skittlette - recreation of It's All About the Polish manicure.

Today's post is my recreation (and slight tweaking) of a Dotty Skittlette design I had pinned on Pinterest for ages.  It has been on my "to do" radar for a while, so when I reached a blank and was looking through images I had pinned this one leapt at me!  I loved this on, the first image below was shown as a sneak preview on my Instagram and has become my most liked post ever!

British Nail Blogger Colour Me Crazy - Neon

These nails aren't quite neon, but they were certainly bright!  I actually wore these on 1st August so it is a vault post!

Barry M Autumn Gelly Release 2014 Swatches and Comparisons

The newest six additions to the Barry M Gelly line were released to Superdrug on Weds 27th August, having finally completed my Gelly collection a couple of months ago, I had to pick them up and keep the collection complete.  Superdrug had them on 3 for 2 so I got them all for just under £16.  Today's post features swatches of each of the six new shades plus a comparison to the closest polish in my stash.  All polishes in today's post were purchased by me, with the exception of the Beauty UK ones, these were previously provided for review.

All pictures are two coats, no top coat.  Application was good on all of these with one exception which I will mention further down.

First is Cardamom, a dusty green.

a-england Camelot with gold accents.

note - photos in this post were taken in away from normal lighting.  Some were in full sunshine, some were in indirect light.  Yes I really do glow in the dark in direct sunshine.
