Glittery Red party nails - Barry M Red Glitter

Purchased by me

For Christmas I fancied a red glitter nail, but with it being New Year's Eve this could be the perfect time to crack open a glittery red.  I opted for two coats of Barry M Red Glitter, but by the time I had cleaned up I ended up needing a third coat to fill back in some of the overly cleaned areas.

Pictures are 3coats with HK Girl top coat.  This was a pig to clean up so there are little bits of glitter all over my hands.

Issues with Onycholysis - why I haven't posted much recently.

My issues with onycholysis - why I haven't posted much or Mentality burns, the gift that keeps on giving.

Hope you all had a lovely Christmas! I mentioned in my OPI DS Glamour post about my nails having lifted, this post is about those troubles.  Horrible naked nail pictures ahead....

OPI DS Glamour swatches

OPI DS Glamour was my all time favourite blue holo.  I once owned this blue, then sold it.  I recently repurchased it and have worn it four times in the five weeks I have had it again, which is quite a lot for me.  These phone photos show the most recent time I wore it.

China Glaze Fancy Pants / Girly Bits Shift Happens combo

Today's China Glaze/Girly Bits combo was unintended.  This post also shows off my ususal blogging hand, which has been unblogged with for a few weeks but my skin is so much improved now, since using the AM Handmade oil!

Green and Gold Skittlette

Today's mani is a green and gold combo, I guess I could pretend this is an attempt at a festive mani - it isn't.  It's just coincidence.  These pictures were taken after 24hrs wear.

Smitten Shoe Polish

 effect
Today's polish swatches are of an oh so difficult to capture white with a pink toned opalescent and scattered holo.  I tried varying lights and as such the picure colouring varies through the post.

Today I have a tale of shit execution of a couple of reasonable ideas. For this week I would like to rename this challenge 39 great nail art ideas and one spectacularly shit one.

I love blue polish, phone photo spam

Today is just a quick post with some phone spam - pictures I have taken recently whilst my skin has been recovering and are a bit rough.  I have been loving blue polish of late, I always love blue in fact when I had my polish in my Helmer by colour I had over a drawer full compared to half a drawer of others

Smitten Himalayan Blue Poppy and comparison.

Today I have a comparison post, I recently duped myself without even realising it.  Debbie Crumpet has destashed a lot of polishes and I was tempted by several - I bought Too Fancy Lacquer Lake Como and had it sitting in a drawer of polishes I have yet to swatch on swatchsticks.  I was rummaging through this drawer and found Smitten Himalayan Blue Poppy sat in there, I had pretty much forgotten even having that polish having only worn it once before.  They looked so similar that I decided to pull them out and put them side by side, I was rather surprised, so sharing the outcome.

Madam Glam nail polish swatches and discount code

Press Sample

Today I have some swatches of four Madam Glam polishes, plus a super discount code.

First up is "Coral Passion" a neon shade, this reminded me of China Glaze Flip Flop Fantasy and was equally hard to photograph as the neon sends the camera crazy.

This is three coats with top coat. I realised after two coats it may have been wise to apply a white base.

A&M handmade cuticle oil review.

I've posted a lot about my skin issues following the whole Mentality situation.  Funnily enough, all those sore bits all over my hands seem to have gone away since I stopped using their polish.  The last blistery itchy rash over the whole hand was experienced was within a fortnight of my last wearing of a MNP.  Since then I have found my nail area still is quite sensitised and will flare up with certain triggers - not always cause known.  My last flare up, I suspect is related to a blue polish I wore for five days.  I recall something being said about nickel being used as a pigment in some blues - I am mega allergic to nickel, maybe that's why I found myself with sore patches under my nails in the last week of October?  I decided to up the ante and increase my oil usage.

NET cancer awareness day

This is a wordy post, if you are here only for nail pictures please scroll down, there are some!!

November 10th already?  It only seems 5 minutes since I wrote a piece in December about this, published in January.   Today is Worldwide NET Cancer Day, a day to try and raise awareness of Neuroendocrine Tumours (NET) something I was totally oblivious to until Friday December 12th 2014.  A date that  rocked my world.  It was a Friday morning, hubs and I called into Greggs on our way to work and picked up a sandwich each.  We both had chicken mayo baguettes. Funny the trivial facts you remember.

Unseasonable Pastel Skittlette

Today's post is a totally unseasonable, pastel skittlette, but then just because it's Autumn or Winter doesn't mean you'll find me with dark nails.  I have noticed a lot of women in my work place have switched to burgundy and wine shades.  Not me :)

This is another Cinderella hand post, my recent skin flare up has badly affected my usual right hand - if you are new to my blog, see www.mentalityburns.com for more info regarding the causes of the issues which affect me and many others.

Smitten Something Wicked This Way Plums

I really liked Smitten Something Wicked his Way Plums when I wore it as a part of my skittle previously, so when I needed a quick mani which would last, I opted for two coats.  This post features my Cinderella hand as my usual swatching hand is still pretty rough after yet another flare up. If you are new to my blog, visit www.mentalityburns.com and you will see the story I share with so many others as to why my skin is such a mess.

40 Great Nail Art Ideas - Halloween

Purchased by me  Press sample.

Today's 40 Great Nail Idea theme is - appropriately -  Halloween, to be fair I could probably find plenty of ideas with this theme and cover two weeks, but I am sticking to just one post (again) this year. Don't Fear the Reaper.  You may not even pick him out, but he's in there along with a couple of sets of glowing red eyes in the undergrowth.

Smitten Skittle

I'm rather partial to Smitten polishes, so when the recent Fall 2015 collection was released I was tempted to buy a couple - plus one of the limited editions benefiting the black mamba anti poaching unit. When they arrived I couldn't make my mind up which to wear first so I skittled them.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Review.

Today I thought I would take another break from nail posts and try a review of something entirely out of my comfort zone... a mobile phone review!  I recently reached the end of my contract and have been so impressed by the new phone that I have decided to write about it.  If you aren't interested in this kind of thing, please move on and I will be returning to nails from my next post :)  This post is in no way sponsored, it's just something I decided to write.

Holiday

Nothing to Disclose

I mentioned in my last post that I had been to Devon.  For readers outside of the UK, Devon is one of the south west counties in England, it has stunning coast lines.  I live in the Midlands, close to Nottingham (Sherwood Forest area) and we are totally land locked here, so getting away by the sea is pretty special for hubs and I.

We went to Westward Ho! (the only place in the UK with an exclamation mark on it's name) over the first weekend in October, the weather we had was amazing!  The temperatures felt like it was May or June, we were able to wear t'shirts.  There was none of the bracing cold sea breeze you would experience of the east coast: Skegness I am looking at you.  I thought I'd take a break from a nail post today and share some photos from my time there.

All photos taken on my phone.

Phone photo spam

In my 40 Great Nail Art ideas posts, I showed my newly shortened nails.  The next photos are from the days before then.  Some I had snap shotted quickly on my phone, but never photographed properly.  Some of the polishes used within the post are press samples.

The first mani was inspired by a Nailasaurus mani using a red angel stamping plate.  I didn't like the stud placement I tried and ended up removing this mani within an hour.

40 Great Nail Art Ideas - Geek

Today the 40 great nail art ideas theme is geeks.  I had a fantastic idea for this one which involved two layers done on my Ubermat.  But then a) I cut my nails off and b) I realised I hadn't got time.  I cut my nails off to try and get rid of the strong horizontal ridges which are growing out at the moment (read www.mentalityburns.com).

So I have opted for an alternative take on geeks.  I am a nail geek.  The uberbright neon orange base is a polish I picked up recently.  I was on holiday in Devon and noticed that a new shop was opening with a wall of nail polish.  As it opened the day after, we HAD to go back and I HAD to buy something!  This orange was one of four polishes I purchased.  I also am a dotting geek and haven't done a full mani with lots of dots for ages, so I went for that too.

Colors by Llarowe Beam Me Up Scotty swatches

Beam Me Up Scotty is a CbL polish I picked up from a nail polish sale page on Facebook. Google is telling my that the polish is limited edition from roughly 2012 and no longer available.

The polish is a pale silvery blue colour, but in some lighting the light turquoise comes out too, the photos below show two coats with CbL PDQ top coat, taken with my phone using the flash (which really brings out the turquoise.)

Inspired by Mary's top!

The inspiration behind this mani is the top a colleague of mine called Mary was wearing.  I noticed the pattern and saw this mani from there.  She was wearing a black and white swirly patterned tunic, which had red and white ovals in the pattern.  I changed the colours around and this is the result.

40 Great Nail Art Ideas - Hobbies

Today sees the beginning of a new Crumpet's Nail Tarts Challenge.  I am hoping to keep up with the fortnightly themes - once every two weeks seems much more do-able for me and my poor track record!

Today the theme is hobbies, although this may look like a "normal" Emma skittlette there are several reasons why I have done this, which I will come on to.

SpaRitual Hand Made and Eye For Detail swatches, comparisons and thoughts.

Today I have swatches and comparisons of two new polishes from SpaRitual's most recent collection, Pause.  The two polishes I am reviewing are a glitter and a shimmer.  My first thoughts were that I may have some dupes so I have included a comparison photo.

SpaRitual offer ecofriendly products, this includes using recycled glass in their bottles. The ingredients used are vegan friendly. Anyone who has read my blog for a while will know how much I love THAT BRUSH! The grippy handle takes all the efrt out of painting your nails. The polishes are high quality and wear really well, I especially like their creme finishes.

Firstly Hand Made, a coppery brown glitter polish, micro glitters of gold and red combine in this shimmery polish to create an overall brown shade. The suspension base is ever so slightly tinted.

Girly Bits What Happens in Vegas Ends Up On Snapchat swatches and comparison.

Today I am posting a swatch and comparison post.  Unfortunately this polish is retired - it was only available for pre-orders 28th August to 31st August.  It may still be something to look out for on nail sales pages, but it can no longer be purchased directly.

This lilac holo is gorgeous!  A normal holo base with larger holo chunks throughout.  I should have filmed a video of this in motion!

Ubermat stamping mat

Purchased by Me some products previously provided as Press Sample

Today I thought I would share my first attempts and thoughts about my Ubermat!  I purchased this myself after seeing so many blog posts about them. I bought mine from Girly Bits at the same time that I ordered the limited edition What Happens in Vegas polish.  It arrived in less than a week from Canada to the UK, although it did take some time from order to despatch as the limited edition was a pre-order over the August bank holiday.  I later discovered that UK retailer She Sells Sea Shells started selling them, so that's great news for UK based nail addicts, as I kept worrying that Royal Mail might destroy the package on it's way into the UK.

Phone spam and kitty spam

Today I'm sharing some phone spam - I am about to change my phone so may not transfer them all over!  I have a few things that have been photographed quickly and never took "proper" photos to share.

This stamping was a subtle combo and it looked great...

Colors By Llarowe PDQ top coat review, wear time and thoughts.

I was recently browsing a nail polish sale page on Facebook and noticed someone was selling PDQ top coat by Llarowe. I have been using INM Out the Door, I am towards the end of my second bottle now and it is just starting to thicken. I have been pretty happy with INM but am always open to trying a new top coat, especially as INM smudges nail art. So I bought it and tried it. To test it out, I went for a skittlette with studs, glitter, stamping and dots to see how it worked with each of these elements.

Hand and nail care faves, sending my skin to bootcamp

I have recently mentioned how my hands have been through the wringer, having nail lifting issues and skin troubles.  Today's post is about yet another flare up I have had and how I sent my hands to bootcamp! My skin was in a horrible itchy, aggravated cycle in late August, cause undetermined but most likely relating to the prolonged wear of MNP, as I hadn't heard of their base issues at this point and was wearing it for up to five days at a time.  I needed to try and calm it to avoid another four or five months of misery and this post is to share my favourites which have pretty quickly calmed my skin.

Wear test

More photos from June!

Jessie of Nailed It NZ hasn't been so active on her blog of late (or at least, not that Feedly has pulled for me to read) but she does regularly post videos on her You Tube account, back when I did these nails that was a newly uploaded video!  I'll share the video at the end of this post.

I followed Jessie's guide to making your nail polish last longer.  The first photo is a just done picture, note the tip of my thumb nail is slightly worn already as I must have caught it without knowing.

Periwinkle and Cream

These photos are some I took ages ago on my phone.  Based on the photo properties it tells me I wore these in June!!  I remember it being one of those rare sunny days, given we haven't really had a summer this year - good old British weather!

Neon Textures

These are some rubbish phone photos I took a while ago, I was wearing this the day hubby had an MRI scan so I can roughly pinpoint the date to being in June (!)

Pink dotty skittlette

This mani is a remake of a previous two fingers up to bullying mani which I'd done about a year beforehand.

ASP - Wow it's dry super fast top coat review and nail art.

This nail art was inspired by the ASP Wow It's Dry packaging.  I purchased the top coat myself, I think some of the polishes I used for the nail art were press samples, but it's been ages since I did this and I can't exactly remember the polishes I used!

Wow It's Dry hadn't been on my radar at all until I got a Scratch magazine and noticed an ad for it in there.  I hunted it down and bought this new bottle from eBay.  I think with postage I paid about £6 for it, it retails for £5.99 in Sallys.  Not sure if it's sold anywhere else.

Some thoughts on the Mentality situation and my own nail issues ( a very long and wordy post!)

Over the last few weeks and months, I have been out of the nail loop. I skim through Feedly, but haven't really bought any polishes in ages. I had totally missed all the stuff which has been going on with Mentality polishes causing lifting. In fact I only heard about this on Friday evening when I got an alert that a comment was waiting approval on an older post of mine where I had mentioned issues with lifting I had had last year and had shown some pictures of a Mentality polish.  I guess the person who commented had been Googling for info on it and found my post. I was straight on Google myself!

Erm this was a bit longer coming than planned!

My last post was about six weeks ago and I intended to post this a couple of days after that one, ooooopsie!

It's been a bigger gap than planned, but life happens.  I had six sets of photos edited and uploaded to Blogger, but never got around to the writing that goes along with them. I've been busy building garden furniture, enjoying time with hubs and generally not doing masses.  Over the past two months I've also started to work out more and my exercise time has taken over from my nail time, I've been painting my nails every four or five days rather than every evening.

Anyway here's the second post featuring Mod Lacquer neons.  I loved Stimulate, the orange, so much so that I've worn it several times.

Wednesday, 8 July 2015

Mod Lacquer Stimulate, Deviate and Motivate swatches, comparisons and review.

Today I have some fantastic summery polishes which were just tooooooo good to not photograph and wear at the moment, especially with our wee British heatwave we have just had (summer's over now folks!) - it's been while since my last post, my old friends eczema, dermatitis and psoriasis have all been around for a while and my hands haven't been in a nice condition.  There's still some redness on my fingers in these photos, but nothing like it has been.  And the polishes needed to be shared!

I have three polishes from the stunning Electrified collection by Mod Lacquer which I have swatched, done some comparisons against similar shades from my collection and my thoughts to share.

SpaRitual Nurture swatches and how I wore it.

SpaRitual have created another fab collection, the symer Gathering collection includes this amazing hot rasperry neon creme, Nuture.

My photos are not colour accurate, I tried three cameras but none of them would capture the hot raspberry pinkness of this shade, instead it looks quite a muted strawberry.

The product photo SpaRitual's website is much better.

In these photos I have on two coats of Nuture with topcoat.

Enchanted Polish Marge's Blue Beehive swatches.

Nothing to Disclose

I recently had a bit of a clear out of my polish stash.  Enchanted Polish Marge's Blue Beehive is something I have had in my stash for maybe four to five years now.  I decided that - given I hadn't worn this for so long - I would auction of MBB, but before I did, I took these final pictures for reference!

Essence Spring collection swatches and thoughts.

Long time, no Emma!  It's been over a month since my last post, although that was actually something I had done mid February so it's been a while since I last blogged...  Today I have a long overdue review of some of the Essence spring nail polishes which are available in Wilkinsons stores, I'll add on at the end a bit more of what's been going on and where I have been.  On to the review!

You Tube tutorial disaster!!!

Nothing to Disclose   **crappy phone pics**

Today's nail disaster came from a tutorial I followed from You Tube.  It went that badly that I took the photos with out clean up and took them straight off!!  I haven't even watermarked the photos - please feel free to steal them and use them!

Barry M Spring Gellys.

Nothing to Disclose   Crappy phone photos!!

Apologies for radio silence, had a stomach bug and felt lousy over the last few days. I intended to have a swatch post up today but just haven't felt up to it.

Today's post shows the newest Barry M Gellys: Fondant, Sky Blue and Cotton.  I didn't get chance to set up the light box or proper camera so I just made do with these photos from my phone.

Valentine's reject

Today's post is a Valentine's day reject, a mani I did but never got around to posting at the appropriate time.
